Weatherstone Website is Up-and-Running

The “New” Weatherstone Website has been online since April 2003.  Michael Del Toro, the current Webmaster, redesigned the Website to help keep the community informed.  The Website is packed with information and neighborhood pictures including directions to Weatherstone, E-mail list sign-up, pool information, community documents, shelter reservations, events, contacts, community focus features, FAQs, and links to related sites.  The URL for the Website is http://weatherstone.us.  To date, there have been over 2,000 hits on the Website.  Bookmark the Website and visit frequently as it is regularly updated with new community information.

Events Update

The next Weatherstone HOA Meeting will be on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 06:30 PM at the Weatherstone Pool.  All homeowners are welcome to attend.  Please bring your own chair.

Pink Flamingo Party at the Pool

This adults-only event (the pool will be closed to children during the party) will take place at the pool on Friday, September 12, 2003 at 07:00 PM – 10:00 PM.  Please bring your favorite appetizer or dessert to share with other Weatherstone neighbors at the pool.  A DJ will provide music for the evening. Weatherstone Golf Tournament

The Third Annual Weatherstone Golf Tournament will be held on either Sunday, September 21, 2003 or Sunday, September 28, 2003. Once it is known how many golfers will be playing this year, a specific course and exact time will be set.  The Weatherstone tournament is a 4-person scramble golf tournament.  You may either submit four names for a 4-person team or submit one, two or three names that will get assembled into a team.  Please E-mail your name, address, phone number, preferred date, average score/handicap and E-mail address to Jeff Schuster at schusterjl@energyexpertise.com or call Jeff at (303) 858-0540 with the information.

Weatherstone Fall Carnival

Come celebrate the end of summer at our first annual Weatherstone Fall Carnival on Saturday, October 4, 2003, from 01:00 PM- 04:00 PM. This event will take place in the Weatherstone pool parking lot and will feature games, prizes, face painting, food and possibly other events for children.  Block Captains will be handing out more information soon. Check the Weatherstone Website for updated information.

Holiday Luminaries

In previous years, some areas of Weatherstone have been “lighting up the season” by placing luminaries along the front sidewalks of their homes.  We would like to make this an annual Weatherstone tradition.  Help create a holiday wonderland throughout Weatherstone by participating on December 23, 2003. Check the Website for updated information.

From the President

In this article, Michelle Nelson, Weatherstone’s Board of Directors President, discusses several current issues regarding our neighborhood.

Why is our grass brown?

There has been concern from residents over the new sod by the pool area that has turned brown.  The main reason for the demise of the grass was that a sprinkler valve and the timer were shut off within a week of one another, shortly after the pool opened.  After the sod was installed in early May, our landscaper was out daily to check the sprinklers and the sod.  By the time the pool opened they were checking only twice a week.  Thus, neither of the problems were caught immediately, causing the turf to suffer and get burnt.  Currently, the grass is recovering nicely in most areas and we hope that the recent cooling will help.  Note that our landscaper will replace any sod that does not recover.

We are making every effort to have the areas near the pool and the pavilions watered after normal pool hours.  If for some reason the water goes on during your function, we apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you call our management company, CMS, at (720) 377-0100.

Why are there weeds in our flowerbeds?

First of all, thanks to those residents who have recognized the efforts and relayed compliments to the BOD about the improvements in landscaping.  Although the Weatherstone entrances look better this year, there are still concerns regarding the landscaping and maintenance.

The main entrances into Weatherstone are maintained by Metro Districts.  This area starts at the monuments and continues through the first street in Weatherstone on both Stone Mountain and Weathersfield.  We are consistently working with the Metro Districts to monitor their subcontractors because of the lack of weeding/watering/mulching/design.  Unfortunately, this has not produced the desired results.  Therefore, we are working with Metro Districts to gain complete control of these areas, much like the Highwoods neighborhood.

Currently, the islands at both entrances, the sides of Stone Mountain and Weathersfield, and the entire pool area are maintained by All-Phase Landscaping.  We had them re-mulch all of the beds this year at a cost of $6,000 to help control the weeds.  We are also working with All-Phase to better maintain the weeds in the flowerbeds.

Name the Picnic Shelters

We would like to name the two picnic shelters in the Pool Area.  Please send name suggestions to: rex@weatherstone.us.

Damage at the Pool

Opening season at the pool has been great and we have heard many positive comments from the residents.  The pool has been an outstanding way to meet other residents and provides a better sense of community.  We think that most will agree that the pool is a positive amenity that we should be proud of and that it helps increase property values.

Unfortunately, there have been some problems with the use of the pool.  We have had numerous chairs, lounge chairs, and tables damaged or stolen, the lock broken off the gate, littering, and people climbing the fence to enter.  Please take a moment to review the rules that are posted poolside and the Website with your family.  It appears that the 10-18 age group has been especially problematic, including having drinking parties, being at the pool after hours, jumping off the pool furniture into the pool, jumping the fence, standing on tables and breaking them, swimming in the nude, and parents leaving children under 12 years old alone at the pool.  If your child damages something, you, as parents, will be responsible for the cost and may have your family’s pool privileges revoked.

We are including an agreement for use of the pool that we would like to review with your children.  Have them sign it and keep it to remind them of the behaviors that will not be tolerated.  As adults, we are all responsible for policing the pool and the behaviors of others.  If you see damage taking place or irresponsible behavior, ask for their names, tell them what they are doing wrong, and lastly call our management company to report the incident.  With your help we can make the pool a pleasurable experience for all residents and keep maintenance costs down.
