Community Focus

August 2003 – The Perkins Family

This first Weatherstone Community Focus features the Perkins family. Martin, his wife Lisa and their three children moved into Weatherstone (on Countrybriar Lane) in April 2000.

Martin and Lisa met in high school in San Antonio, Texas. They moved to Highlands Ranch in 1998 because Martin’s employer, IKON Office Solutions, transferred him. In April 2000, they moved from the Westridge area (in Highlands Ranch) to Weatherstone because their neighbors moved to Weatherstone and showed them the new community. “We loved the area and the schools. We also wanted a bigger house!” states Martin.

Martin and Lisa have three children, Matt, Morgan, and Layne. Their oldest child, Matt, is a sophomore at ThunderRidge High School. He loves music and is on the TRHS baseball team. Morgan is a seventh grader at Ranch View Middle School who stays very busy on a competitive gymnastics team. Layne is their youngest child. She is in fifth grade and attends Trailblazer Elementary School. Layne is also involved in competitive team gymnastics.

In January 2002, Martin and Lisa purchased two restaurants in the metro area. Dickey’s Barbeque Pit is a franchise based in Texas. Martin had been involved in the restaurant business for over 12 years. He thought that the opportunity to purchase Dickey’s was ideal, as he loved eating there as a customer. The restaurants are located at Sante Fe and Prince in Littleton and Arapahoe and Havana in Centennial. The Perkins are planning on opening another store or concept soon. Dickey’s barbeque is delicious as anyone who attended the Weatherstone Pool Grand Opening in May can attest.

Lisa manages all the bookkeeping and accounting for the business. In her spare time she watches “Trading Spaces”, volunteers at the kids’ schools, does the yard work, and is an avid runner.

While not running the business, Martin enjoys hiking, skiing, and cooking. He and Matt are in the process of restoring a 1968 Mustang.

The Perkins are avid sports fans. Their “teams” are the NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs and Texas Longhorns.

Their family enjoys the life that Weatherstone permeates. “We really love the pool. Our family uses it on a regular basis.” says Lisa. Martin adds, “We love our neighbors. We ‘spontaneously’ gather with them at least once-a-month.”
